How To Turn Your Dog Into a Live Chia Pet This Halloween.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of dressing up dogs. However, The Flirty Guide (Stacie Tamaki) shares with us a way to make this terrific "Howl"ween costume, turning your dog into a live Chia Pet. All you need are some plastic aquarium plants, muslin, fabric, elastic straps, felt and a willing participant. (Note: a "green" version of this costume is possible by using organic materials and eco-friendly felt as shown in the photo at the beginning of this post, courtesy of Inhabitat).

Needed elements for the Terracotta legs:
•An inner liner made of muslin
• An outer layer using terra cotta colored fabric
• Two straps and a cross strap connecting the first two together. The first straps are attached at the top of each leg, suspender style, to hold them up once you slip all four legs onto your dog.

The Steps:
1. Sew an inner leg liner using muslin or another fabric that is thin enough to bend if your dog wants to sit or lie down.
2. Sew and outer terra cotta leg with appropriately colored fabric that is also thin enough to fold and bend for your dog's comfort.
3. Make sure they are both the same width at the bottom. Drop the liner inside the terra cotta layer and fold the terra cotta layer under allowing you to sew them together with a single pass of your sewing machine.
4. Now stitch the two layers together at the top in only two places where the strap will fasten along the outer side of your dog's leg and directly across from it on the other side. This holds the two layers together without binding them completely and eliminates the need to make the pant legs fit your dog's leg perfectly. This way the pant legs can loosely fit, be comfortable and look great!
5. Once you've stitched the top of the legs together sew the felt strap along the outer side of the pant leg.
6. Do one leg first, then slip the other pant leg on your dog's other leg and pin it into place along the strap you're attaching them to. Make sure you can slip it off, bending your dog's leg to do so, and you've got the perfect length to trim the strap to.
7. Attach the other pant leg same as the first.

Elements for the covering and foliage:
• Felt to make a blanket or body cover and fabric for lining so the plastic plants do not irritate your dog.
• Plastic aquarium plants that come attached to grids (available at Petco) or organic plants for the green version:

To attach the plastic foliage, pull all of the foliage off the mats. Then make a horse blanket out of green felt and strategically cut holes in the felt using an x-acto knife. Push the prongs of the grid through the holes and reattach the foliage alternating the two different types of leaves. Then line the entire costume on the underside so that none of the plastic will poke through and make your pet uncomfortable.

And Voila! Ch Ch Ch Chia.... Chia Dog!

Furniture Design from the collective imagination of Outofstock.

Outofstock is a design collective, born out of a fortuitous meeting in Stockholm, hence the name Outofstock. Gabriel Tan and Wendy Chua from Singapore, Gustavo Maggio from Argentina and Sebastián Alberdi from Spain met at Electrolux Design Lab 2005. They connected, kept in touch, and after a reunion in 2006, decided to collaborate. This collaboration grew into an integrated studio offering interior and product design services and they have not looked back since.

Below are a few results of their talented collaborations.

ARBOR:

Arbor, which stands for trees in Latin, is a compact work desk featuring five different solid woods. Ideal for small apartments and hotel rooms, the Arbor desk is suited for laptops and light paperwork.

It allows for storage through a front-opening drawer and four top-opening compartments on the table surface. The storage compartments are descending in size as one moves towards the right, allowing one to organize his/her workspace in a convenient manner. The legs of the desk can be dissembled and packed separately for convenient transportation.

UP & AWAY:

A series of lights available in various dimensions and configurations, which can be wall-mounted or suspended, look like kites made from luminous glass.

The power cable fixed to the end of its body emphasizes the impression that it is being carried on the wind. UP&AWAY lights incorporate LEDinGLASS active glass technology from QUANTUM GLASS™. Manufactured by Saazs.

AER LEATHER TOP DESK (prototype):

The AER leather and wood desk actually has office items such as a bic pen and cap and paperclips molded under the leather stitched top:

PAUSE:

An inviting piece that greets visitors stepping into the house, Pause provides those precious minutes of calm transition as one remove the shoes and slow down after a busy day. The combination of a thin folded steel sheet and the criss-crossed legs give this welcoming bench, a strong character and high strength without losing its natural simplicity.

It can also be used as a small side table where magazines or books can be placed on the shelf. Materials: Powder coated steel / Solid Oak. Manufactured by Bolia.

SHERLOCK:

A floor lamp inspired by the magnifying glass, hence the name. The light source is a ring diffuser containing twenty seven wide-angle LEDs.

An iconic, sculptural lamp at 1.9 metres tall when fully up-right, it can be used as a task light when inclined or as an ambient lamp when rotated upright.

BLACK FOREST:

Inspired by tree branches, this table is made up of two interlocking Y-shaped oak junctions and an asymmetric top (available in mirror finish or wood).

It can be disassembled into three separate parts for flat shipping.

ERASER:

Eraser brings back memories of playing with the iconic Pink Pearl rubber eraser back in elementary school.

Displaying irony between form and function, the USB stick stores data in the familiar shape of the classic ink eraser. Available in 1GB or 2GB.

HUES:

Inspired by the overlay of colors in venn diagrams, this set of nesting tables is composed of waterjet-cut low iron glass tops that are sandblasted and coloured.

Legs and support frame in painted steel. Manufactured by Ligne Roset.

COAT SHED:

Inspired by the garden shed, this coat rack is designed to welcome people into the room or space it is placed in.

A relaxed slanted position and illumination from its roof brings a welcoming presence, telling newcomers it is ready to take their coat.

WINTER ARRIVES:

Winter Arrives is a series of stools emulating the fresh snowfall on outdoor objects. With generous cushions and contrasting slim legs these pieces remind us of this phenomenon nature creates.

PLATOON:

Charlie and Bravo are table lamps inspired by plastic toy soldiers. Its curved base and expression of its tubular body gently convey the imagery of toy soldiers. Matte lacquered steel.
